Each side of the disk is divided into invisible areas called tracks, which are concentric circles. Each track is divided into wedge-shaped divisions called sectors. A floppy disk drive contains two magnetic heads, one for each side of the disk. A stepper motor and worm gear mechanism moves the heads across the surface of the disk.
